A gorgeous early clown doll from Steiff with his underscored button, c.1910 who stands 17 inches tall.

The old chap has had a few knocks in his life but still has a lovely face. There is damage to the boots and a repair to the top of his left arm plus some stitching to the base of his neck, overall though he is very strong and wood wool filled. I think at some point a long time ago his clothes were re-made but using the original neck ruff and poms. They suit him very well and are now rather nicely faded in parts, especially the jacket.

I particularly love his beady black eyes and sticky-out ears.......a little delight!
